Remit
The range of competence of the ministry of Home Affairs is fixed by the Government regulation.
The main tasks of the Ministry concern local affairs, municipal finances, municipal planning and urban development, the control of the accounts of the communes, civil security, internal security, immigration and international protection.

Deployment of three members of the CGDIS Humanitarian Intervention Team and an emergency.lu unit to the areas affected by Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean
Following the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl, which struck the Caribbean at the beginning of July, Luxembourg responded favourably to a request for international assistance from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to support the affected populations of the islands of Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Reminder of what to do in the event of a major accident at a "Seveso" site
Exactly 48 years ago, on 10 July 1976, a serious accident occurred at a chemical plant in northern Italy near the town of Seveso. Toxic substances were released, causing extensive damage.

Transposition of the new EU Blue Card Directive
The European Parliament and Council Directive 2021/1883 of 20 October 2021 on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of highly qualified employment was transposed by the Act of 4 June 2024 amending the amended Act of 29 August 2008 on the free movement of persons and immigration. This law came into force today.

Test of the national warning system: sirens and message on the GouvAlert application
On Monday 1st July 2024, the government will continue to implement its strategy for testing the warning and information system for the population by carrying out monthly tests of the siren network and the GouvAlert mobile application.

An unannounced test of the zonal SMS alert took place on Wednesday 26 June 2024 in the municipalities of Weiler-la-Tour, Roeser, Bettembourg, Frisange, Dudelange, Kayl and Rumelange.

'Méi, a méi séier bauen' – administrative simplification in progress and a new public-private partnership for affordable housing
On 19 June 2024, the Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning, Claude Meisch, the Minister for Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, and the Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, detailed the administrative simplification measures, as well as the new public-private partnership (PPP) for the construction of affordable housing, decided by the government to facilitate and accelerate the construction of housing.
