Following the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl, which struck the Caribbean at the beginning of July, Luxembourg responded favourably to a request for international assistance from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to support the affected populations of the islands of Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Transposition of the new EU Blue Card Directive
The European Parliament and Council Directive 2021/1883 of 20 October 2021 on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of highly qualified employment was transposed by the Act of 4 June 2024 amending the amended Act of 29 August 2008 on the free movement of persons and immigration. This law came into force today.

In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Luxembourg, like all EU Member States, applied the temporary protection mechanism for people fleeing Ukraine starting in March 2022. One year after the law came into force requiring home residents to install smoke detectors in escape routes and bedrooms, Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden reminds us of its vital importance: "This technical tool makes it easy to detect a potential fire as early as possible.
